Spain

We cannot seem to get enough of Spanish wine in the UK at the moment. Good news if you make wine in Rioja, but not so good for the rest of this wonderful and diverse country. For the public at large, Spain is Rioja (surveys show that a sizable chunk of the population actually think Rioja is a grape variety) and this region dominates our imports. One or two other regions have become highly prized (and highly expensive) with the help of a few American wine critics, but it is time that we started to generally look around at what great value and range there is on offer. From the crisp dry whites of Galicia - the best accompaniment to seafood there is - to the thoroughly elegant and modern varietal wines of Aragon and Catalonia, there is so much dynamism here, it would be a shame not to share in it.
