Ancient Greece was the cradle of modern wine culture and its wines deserve far more recognition today. Whilst one might intuitively think Greece is too hot for fine wine production, the finest wines are made at altitude, often on north facing slopes, or on islands cooled by sea breezes. Its greatest asset, but also perhaps a reason why the wines are hard to sell, is its palette of indigenous varieties, many noble, and most far more ancient than the likes of Cabernet.
